Replace Transmission Cooler Line With Brake Line?
Saturday, September 23, 2006 2:28 PM
I have been told by a couple people that it fine to replace the tranny cooler lines with a piece of metal brake line. My only question is how good of a solution is this? Maybe I'm not thinking quite right here, but the oem part has the rubber center section of the line. Is this because it is more cost effective? or because the line needs to be able to flex. My thinking is both. I know the transmission moves slightly when its shifted into gear and such, and the radiator definitely does not. How good is an all metal line going to hold up to this movement? Thanks!

i wouldn't recommend using all steel line......you would want the rubber hose in there for when the engine rocks back and forth...if you use an all steel line you might rip the line out of the radiator....i would try to get a piece of rubber hose in there for sure.....why did you replace the lines anyway??

the return line is cracked in the metal section near the radaitor with a slow tranny fluid leak...just needs to be replaced is all

get a metal line, cut out a few inches of it, and put a rubber hose in the middle... transmission fluid isn't under high pressure, so if you flare the ends of the metal line a little bit and clamp the hose on tight, you should have no problems
