No 2nd gear... at 14K miles???
Thursday, October 05, 2006 10:07 PM
Hey all. I have an 05 Sunfire, and today while driving it popped out of 2nd gear while driving. I wasn't even driving it hard. Now, every time I put it into 2nd gear it pops out of gear into neutral. It has no difficulty going into any gear, and if I give very little gas, it will stay in 2nd. If I hold it in gear, it makes a popping and grinding noise. Is there any common problems with the Getrag that I should know about??? Is this an easy fix, or will I have to take it to the dealer??? (It is under warranty)

I will be removing my UD pulley, fidanza flywheel, intake, and poly transmission mounts before taking it to the dealer if I go that route. The only aftermarket thing left on my car would be the exhaust. Do dealers usually hassle about those things, and what should I do if they try to deny my warranty????

Thanks for any and all help.

I had this same thing happen at 11k miles........ a plastic/nylon tip broke off the 1st/2nd shift fork........ causing the locker ring to kick sideways while trying to engage 2nd, not fully locking into 2nd. If I shifted hard into 2nd, it would stay, shift normal, and it would kick out.

Spent 2k and change on the rebuild, and GM stuck the dealer with the bill...... said I should have been given a new trans instead of the rebuild. (I was the tech that did the rebuild )

IF you are worried about any aftermarket parts, print out a copy of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, and hand it to them, along with a card from a local well known Lawyer.

I agree although you do have a flywheel and transmission mounts...you might want to AT LEAST remove those....

The only thing left on my car that isn't factory is the exhaust.

Exact same thing happened to me too at around 60-70K. I got a 05 F-23 with about 10k on it for $650 with a 3 yr parts and labor warr. I still have the old one. How hard is it to replace that fork?

I also put a spec stage II clutch in it and it was garabage. I just blew it out this weekend. Back to oem with and oem flywheel instead of that rksport alum. flywheel too! SPEC=garbage
