Has anyone here tried to lighten their stock flywheel instead of buying an aluminum one? Maybe cut some windows in a stock wheel or something since there is a ton of unused (i.e. no disc to flywheel contact) surface area on the stocker. I can get stock replacement wheels for pretty cheap so I might give it a shot and see what happens (I also have good contacts at a machine shop to get it rebalanced). Anyone have experiance with this? I mainly want to lose some weight but still keep it streetable so I dont loose revs too quickly around town and I'm afraid the aluminum ones will be too peaky and become annoying.

Ya if you take it to a machine shop and ask to lighten or shave some of it on the
back of the flywheel assuming it is standard that is and they can shave quite abit
not sure exaclty how much it was but it is still strong and lighter than stock. I am
doing it with mine and I know the standard flywheel is alot thicker and heaverier
than the automatic flywheel.
If this is all good and there wont be any problems then I say go for it but I am not
100% sure if it's bad or not. I think it couldn't hurt to loose a few pounds or so on
the flywheel for easier turning.

yup..like what ^he^ said...take it to a machine shop and get them to shave it down a little bit..its actually better for your car too..just be careful..dont shave to much..
You can just get a 8 LB fidanza or spec flywheel off ebay or i think turbotech has them.
i had one in my 97 z before the rebuild and its not hard driving it at all.
You will be happy with a aluminum flywheel.

Get the aftermarket flywheel. I was in the same boat, but got one and love it!!!! It is not bad at all.

BTW in an automatic is called a flex plate, in a manual its a flywheel.
