First of all: 2003 Ecotec/ Getrag tranny, Ive never had any problems with the transmissuion, no leaks or puddles before, and no problems shifting or anything, the car runs and works smoothly.
Okay onto the story....
Sat. night I jacked up the car and dug into the tranny mounts to install my Turbo Tech tranny mount replacements bushings, we got the rear mount done fine, it went in like a charm.
Then moved to the front tranny mount and began to loosen the 3 bolts on the engine side of mount.
Once we started to loosen the bolts one of them was leaking red (tranny fluid) very very slowly, like in a small acumulating drip.
At first we thought it was from somewhere else and as an experiment we slowly loosened the bolt that the leak was coming from, and the leak got slowly yet steadily stronger. So I said no way and we tightened it right back up.
I havent checked to see if maybe it its coming from somewhere else above the bolt and upon loosening the bolt we let the fluid "run" past the bolt.
We took pics, Im just waiting on my buddy to email me the pics of the leak culprit, then i'll post them up in a update.
Now I guess what im wondering is does one of the bolts on the mount go directly and all the way through into the transmission housing for some purpose? Maybe as a drain or fluid pressure tapping source? Is this normal or do i have a defect in my tranny? Or am I a complete tard and am I loosening the wrong bolt on accident?
As I stated above, I have
never ever ever had any issues with the car shifting badly or tranny problems that I have noticed. So its not like its a problem thats constantly bugging me, this is the first time iv'e ever had this leak issue and it was right then when we lossened the bolt up that it started to drip, and once we tightened the bolt back down properly it stopped imediately, and there seems to be no side affects of the small drip as of yet.
I will post the pics as soon as I have them in my possession, to illustrate where and what the problem is exactly.
Any input/ reality checks would be great, thanks guys.
I've never had that happen to me when I have removed my mounts......I'm going to wait for pics
I can tell you fluid should not be coming out of that hole. You really need to take that bolt out and see if there is a hole behind it. There should ot be!! If there is you have a problem.

I would check to make sure the casting from the factory doesnt have a hole where the bolt goes.
This title is a little
deceiving as the simple install of our bushings did not cause the leak to happen. It was a issue with the car, prior to this installation, the way it sounds.

Its the car, not the bushings fault. i never had any fluid leaks at all when i did mine, before or after. i would have to see pics for further discussion.

Yeah after I posted I was thinking it looked a little bad, sorry Aaron didn't mena to imply it was your products fault, my bad bro.
For the record, the Turbo Tech Racing Bushings were not the cause to this problem nor were they in any way involved with the leak. The problem was merely noticed while doing the install of the bushings. Which happen to be of upmost quality and design, function perfectly and make a big difference in the feel of the car upon takeoff.
Pics and further investigation of exactly where the leak is coming from coming asap. Waiting on the pics to be emailed to me, and waiting for some spare time to go in depth into the problem.

Real pics are on the way but just for S &G's I put this one together with help from Kardain and his limitless archive of J-body stuff. LOL
It illustrates which bolt im talking about on the front mount.
That is actually a pretty good drawing.
FU Tuning
That looks Like an ALLDATA drawing lol!!!....
The drawing came out of the repair manual i'm sure but onto the "real" pics.....
I knwo they are nothing spectacular but they show what bolt I'm tlaking about and show it covered in fluid. But loking at the pics and thinking back, Im not positive the bolt is the source of the leak, it might just be catching the liquid and letting it flow when the bolt is loosened..... but regardless I'm gonna put the car up on jacks this weekend and trace the leak back to its source.
Now the question I have is if the bolt hole is the leaking culprit could i simply pull the tranny apart and have the hole welded shut to stop the leak?
If not would something this trivial be worth swapping a new tranny in to fix.
The tranny works fine and hasn't had any driveability issues, or problems, so can i just sit on this until i pull the tranny for a clutch install and get it welded shut?
That is assuming its the bolt hole leaking and not some other part..... *sigh*
could be that the wrong length bolt was put in there, or that there was something in the hole, at the factory and it punched a hole into the case........ just a thought.

yeah thats not supposed to happen. Not good at all. Sorry to say it. No fluid should come out anywhere when doing ANY of the bushings on your car.

Yeah thats what i'm going with as my theory wrong bolt or factory fugg up.
It does suck, I gotta figure out what to do about it, weld or new tranny.
Take it to GM, maybe they would help you out on that since it came from the factory like that.. Worth a try.

that's what i'm saying, go to GM, i'm not sure if it is covered under warranty or not, i have my doubts, but you can take it to them and they SHOULD help you out.
I'd take it in---just make sure you have the stock mount back in, otherwise, they might give you probelms.
should def not leak anything from there
i say take it out all the way and see what happens
thats what i was thinking. altho really sucky to hear. but couldnt you just put some teflon tape around the bolt before you put it back in. if it didnt cause any problems before it shouldnt after it goes back in. just a thought. make sure you update what happens this weekend james. you got me kinda curious now.
you guys all gotta be kidding me
not 1 of you ever had fluid come out ?
every getrag trans ive done , a little fluid comes out 1 of the bolt holes
pull the bolt out and clean the hole and bolt , and put a little liquid teflon on the bolt and put it back in

I thought I had heard of this happening at least once before mine. Maybe it was you I was thinking of 97trd? Have you had any issues since you teflon taped the bolt?
Anyways... ive pretty much decided that this is gonna be a teflon Tape and torque the bolt down type of thing, it never messed with the car before so heres hoping it won't fugg me over.
I do plan on building a seperate engine and tranny for my boost project coming soon. So until then I'm gonna teflon the bolt and hope to hell it don't make any bad issues for me. But first the car will be check jsut in case to see if the leak is indeed the bolt. Cross your fingers peeps.

I've pulled 6+ Getrags, not one leaked from a mount bolt hole
I agree that some teflon on the bolt should keep it from leaking, once the bolt is back in.
