Thursday, February 15, 2007 7:43 AM
ok this grinding noise is happening when i go into third gear. it will pass the synchro and as soon as it does it grinds. if i put it in third the synchro does its job and holds the gear in but it grinds. no other gear does this, only third. HELP!!!??? could someone tell me if they had the same problem and what they did to fix it or someone tell me what the problem is??

Are you sure it is staying in gear? Sounds like it is grinding the gear. It could be the tips of the shift fork are messed up, or the gear is grinded down. Either way tranny needs to be opened.

My 06' hhr shift fork was messed up. It would grind going into third, and leaving third only. No problem any other gear. Mine would not grind if you double clutch like an old truck. In my trans is was a "plastic" fork, the dealer replaced it with a bronze fork.

I never had a problem with it popping out of gear. It was just grinding going in and out of gear passed the synco's.

The tips of the forks are covered with a nylon sheath....... your saying GM has updated forks with bronze tips? That would be music to my ears, since that alone is the weakest part of the Getrag Transmission.

Well, for gear rattle GM ID# 1337141
It says to install wave springs\washers between blocker ring in 3rd and 4th.

I looked for a good hour for the shift forks, there are bulletins on them, but nothing i was looking for, just says to replace them....

so I looked on my parts listing, ALL F23's get the same PN's, that makes me think there all the old nylon style.... I will car part-tec tomorrow and learn what’s up!

I too would love to upgrade mine for some better shift action. Keep us posted on those numbers.

these tips would not really give better shift action. It would be more to keep from break.bending the factory ones.
