a friend of mine has a 2200 s10 2001. he wants to either do a 4.3 vortec swap. I took him out for a ride a couple nites ago and he loves Hptuners and Ecotec. He was wondering if He can bolt an eco wit his existing tranny and if not which tranny will he need since its rwd.
no the 2200 and eco polt patterns on the tranny and mounting surface are different. athough he might look into the tranny from a solstice or a sky, they have the same bolt pattern, seeing as they use an eco.. after that you have to worry about a custom driveshaft and wiring. not to mention the ecu.....although i guess that would be part of the wiring. good luck, sounds like an interesting combination.
If he wants to swap engines, it ain't worth it to do anything but a V8. I mean if he wants to do it just to do it then that is different, but cost and time wise, V8 is the best choice..
I agree, as much fun he can have with the eco and hp tuners. I think it would be easier and better with a 4.3 v8. I think the 4.3 should bolt right up to his tranny or it is an easy swap for both.
^^^the 4.3 was a v6. but it was pretty much a chevy 350 with the last two cylinders lopped off. as such, his stock tranny will bolt up to a 350, but i have no clue as to wether or not it will handle the power. they do have kits out there for v8 swaps into s- series trucks. back when i had my sonoma i even looked into it, but of the few that i saw, the gas mileage was way horrible. something in the ball park of 7-8 city and 12-13 highway.
in that case i had plans to just trubo the ln2 to get some decent power out of it, and hopefully retain some sort of decent mileage but then some idiot in a taurus totaled my 'noma. if he just wants a decent power increase he could prolly just look at building up a spare ln2, turbo it and drop it in. this is of course if he even cares about mileage, if not the chevy 350 is deff. the way to go.
Oh yeah as much as i hate the ass hat that owns this site, they do have alot of useful info and members who will help you out
