my 2.4 trans was rebuilt using all 2.2 gears/syncros. it was all i had at the time and the 2.2 gears came to me cheap. eveything is now back together and broke in im starting to do some "spirited" driving and the whole launching and powerband of the car seams different. i knew the gear ratios were different in the two sets of gears, but I didnt think it would be that big of a deal.
in my situation being oriented towards building a car for drag racing, are these 2.2 gears going to hurt me in the 1/4 mile.
I havent had time to get back to the track, its just the car feeling slower
anyone?
the 3rd and 4th gear from the 2.2 are better, but the 1st and 2nd are better on the 2.4
so i did the swap when i rebuilt mine (2.4 1st, 2nd and 2.2 3rd 4th along with a final ratio drive of 4.11 from the impulse. I love it....
also the 2.4 final is better than the 2.2 but magik did a bit more work and got the impulse final drive. i have the list and stuff of the gearing cuz i planned on doin the swap, but decided to go with the nvg t550 tranny instead
yeah, now i want the nvg tranny. with my set up, i shift past 7500 and its difficult to get in gear. maybe the nvg would be better for high shifting? how do you like your nvg gmanz24?
which models have the muncie, nvg, and getrag? Are there any threads that let you know. Thnaks.

search there is plenty out there
Magik1109 about the nvg i think its pretty sweet, now ive never drivin a car with the isuzu(rode in a few) so i really dont have much of a comparison cuz i did i 5speed swap straight to the nvg, but i have to say its pretty nice of a tranny and she pulls good through the gears. my buddies z24 cav just seems to bog inbetween shifts with the isuzu it doesnt pull like mine, also i have 2 nvg trannys 1 may be for sale soon
yeah, but i dont think that the nvg has gear ratios as high as my isuzu, so it should pull less then with my isuzu but should shift better. if i get one, i'll get a brand new one from this seller on ebay that got plenty of them for 750 new. i will also get their lsd diff with it. should run me 1500US shipped to canada.
but only thing is i would have to find the mount from the nvg (the one needed for the wap, front or rear... i never remember) and i will also need to find the intermediate shaft and axle to get equal lenght axle.

both the 2.2 and 2.4 2nd and 5th gears are the same,
im just wondering if the difference in these two sets of gears is really a big deal, or if the differnce is not really important
i did see a big difference but i had a flywheel installed at the same time so i cannot say which did more.... and i also got the fdr of 4.11 in top of that
i also put in an aluminum flywheel at the same time as my rebuilt trans.
i think i just need to get to the track and find out.
The 2.2 gears (mainly fdr) are better for a higher HP car, so you have a better chance of putting the power down..... on a n/a car, the hybrid trans (2.4 1/2/5 + FDR, 2.2 3/4) works great, even better with the Impulse 4.11:1 FDR.
