Ok im a verry ambitious builder
I have a 97 Z24 4 speed automatic.
I just installed an MJ1 5 speed manual( complete conversion)
had to weld the mount brackets cut the master cylinder hole the whole 9 yards.
Now it wont start????????????????
wiring harness is intact battery is fully charged all sensors hooked up with the exception of those related to the automatic transmission
help?

Did you swap in a manual engine harness or use the auto engine harness? If you kept the auto harness and ECU the car thinks it is a auto and does not see the car in park to start. There is a way to ground that switch, but I do not know the way.

no getrag /munci 98-2005 the tranny is from a 98
um yes on using the auto tranny harness cant get ahold of the connecter pinouts cuz I just finished school last week so I no longer have access to all data
Im gonna grab the harness and the pcm and give that a shot.

95-99 is isuzu....2000 up is getrag...nevermind te passlock stuff....if you didnt change the harness and computer thats more then likely your problem..

there is a large yellow and purple wire at the switch for the auto trans , youll never guess what they are for

as far as the pcm goes they are the same between automatic and manual
out of the 2 vss plugs whick one goes to the tranny the pink and green or the blue and yellow?
as for the yellow and purple wires do I splice those together or completely remove them?

I take that to mean it won't crank.
Won't crank and not start are totally different symptoms.

make sure its the 2 larger wires , like 10-12 gauge wire
the starter circuit runs through the switch on the trans , so it only starts when the car is on park or neutral , switch gone , no contact to go between them wires

I am going to take a wild stab at this but... are your shift cables backwards?

the one that moves when you move the shifter is connected to the lever that moves everything up and down on the tranny
and the other well you know

on the auto, the start safety switch closes the circuit when the tranny's in Park or Neutral (I think it's on the tranny).
on the manny, the start safety switch closes the circuit when the clutch is pushed in (it's prob. behind the clutch pedal)
you should be able to splice a start safety switch in if you find the right wires, and you don't need alldata to find the right wires- just go to the local parts store and get a Chilton or Hayne' s service manual- it has all the wiring diagrams (at least for something this simple)
Just a few thoughts b4 you go to swap the whole harness- that thing goes everywhere
and i think the pink/green is your reverse switch- I had to replace it on my '99 with the isuzu tranny
sounds like you dont have the shift cables on the right spots

another problem the dealership wont reflash my pcm because the vin says my car came with an automatic
so anybody got a 97 Z24 with power windows locks mirrors sunroof and trunk release and a 5 speed tranny willing to let me borrow the VIN for a day?
I have to get the car smogged before the end of the month
