You're not using a sythetic trans fluid are you?

I did when I first got mine rebuilt and the shifts were softer than the stock build. The synthetic fluid allows for too much slippage, not good in performance applications. I drained and refilled it with B&M's Original Trick-Shift (very similar to Fords Type-F ATF). That firmed it up quite a bit, though not quite as firm as a race type shift kit.

Did you do the work on the tranny yourself? The second gear servo's back lash is really touchy. It's adjusted with the disc like shims. Too much lash and it shifts like stock, not enough and you'll burn-up the band and drum, as it will leave the band rubbing against the drum all the time, except when in second gear. This makes all the difference on the one-two shift.

i did have the synthetic in it then i was reading a post and i saw what you had said about it with the clutches so i swapped the fluid that day . and as far as the work a friend on mine at the shop did it in his spare time . so im not sure how he did it .
