B&M Shifter
Monday, June 11, 2007 7:44 PM
Im planning on putting one of these in my 00 cav.

http://www.carcustoms.net/product_info.php?cPath=265_22_32_598&products_id=65

But before i do i have a few questions....

1) Are they an alright store to buy from?
2) Does the B&M shifter come with a knob? I have seen it without.
3) Am i able to put my stock knob on?
4) Will it support the reverse safety feature? (where it makes it difficult to down shift into Reverse from 5th/ shift into reverse without 'sliding it up')

I found a guide on how to install it, but i was wondering about those few things. Thanks guys.

i got mine off ebay and it works just fine. cheaper but some say its not as good. and mine came with reverse lockout but the trans itself wont let you go into reverse or i dont know how you would do that anyway but i guess it could happen. and i used my stock knob as well so i didnt have to deal with the heat and cold from it. its a pain to take off but works.

for example?

Is it something to go cheap on? I don't want to be stuck in 3rd gear 3 months from now

Thanks stripped, How about that ebay one? No go?

ive got a ebay one for my 99, id shy away from it

could have been my install or something but the shifter rod itself twist around inside the ball cylinder (near base big circle part)

it makes it so i cant get to 1st or 5th very easy, and now my shifter cables are going bad...

Eeek. Thanks for the heads up.

B&M it is.

stripped covered it for the most part...

1.Yes, very much so.

2. The 00+ one comes with a knob and the weight of the knob is a factor in the shift feel, so changing it out for a different one will change the feel of the throw all together.

3. Possibly, but like I said, the weight of the knob has to do with the throw and it wont feel as good with a lighter knob on it.

4. Yes they come with a rever lock out sleeve.

ALSO: those cheap imitations on e-bay are junk. they are not built to the same quality standards as the actual B&M ones and do not have a warranty.
And I also want to add that this will probably be one of your favorite and most fun mods. And its a tit to install (everything start to finish, including taking out and putting back in my console took about 45 mins)

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

Paid immediately, shipped a couple hours later. Will get on Thursday, may put in Friday (although i graduate, but hey, need something to do in the morning).

It says its for 2000+ and doesn't have a knob in that picture (doesn't mean anything).

If it feels funny, I'll never no the difference, unless i buy a new knob.

I wish I would have known that you can save the factory knob. I have an 05 with the B+M and in the instructions it said it was neccissary to break off the old knob on the install. Now that its hot, I have to deal with the aluminun knob...Bummer...

I recommend a salvage yard. If you have any around you that is.

Jason... listen Cali boy.... I want you to tell me that the HOT days are what sucks with the aluminum knob after spending a winter in Maine with one! lol

My walmart has shift knob covers, they slip on and tie.....like a sock with shoelaces. Try something like that, if you value your hand

Will Hurst shifter knobs fit the B&M shifter?

It would be without the rev lock out correct?

Are there after market knobs that support the lockout?
