I have a 2003 Sunfire with an automatic trans and am planning on running a turbo will my stock trans handle the horsepower or will i have to upgrade my trans. and do you know how much horsepower the auto trans is good for?
Your stock auto will handle the power just fine. For added insurance, you could add a transmission fluid cooler.

yeah man these things really are meaty. ....... however
no one unfortunetly has tested the power. I have been asking for years what the thing will really take, and I cant seem to find a solid awnser. the general consensu is 300 reliably 350 for a track day, but even then your diff is flirting with danger, swap that, and your clucth packs should take you to...... a place where know has been ................yet
in all honesty though pick up a trans cooler and a shift kit.

I'm having a transmission built as we speak with a new LSD, Blue Plate clutches, 2560 stall converter, and a bunch of other stronger, upgraded parts. I'll be pushing over 400whp with a built Eco and a GT3071 ball bearing turbo. I'll let you know how it goes when it's all done....

I think the most important thing we could gather at this point is guide. I mean everyone knows that a stock eco can take about 300, then the crank goes at 5 and head will flow decently to like 350
but with the trans its a crap shoot. the only information we can pull together is that the diff is the first to go.
by the way can we get a full list of what your trany will be like.

Sure...it's an '04 4T40E for an Ecotec with:
Engineered Performance LSD
Raybestos Blue Plate clutches
All brand new clutch backing plates
New 4th band and Low/Rev band
Updated pressure control solenoid
Updated fluid pressure switch assembly
Billet accumulator pistons (replaces plastic ones)
A few other new "wear and tear" parts
Upgraded fluid pump shaft
New fluid filter
New fluid level control
New 3.91 final drive sprockets
2560 Stall torque converter
If I remember anything else I may have forgotten I'll let you know.

ill have to sign on to the forum and find him and talk to him, cuz i will have alot of the parts if i send the tranny to him, so that will cut down cost alot too.
sort of. its not lsd though. its a regular open diff. one wheel wonder. and lsd is what people swap to.
