Who would be interested in a Twin/Tripple Disc clutch setup for the 2.2L Ecotec engine?
It would require a new special flywheel, as we would need to make a special flywheel to work with the twin/tripple disc clutch.
We could offer a Twin and Triple option with torque capacities of 800 and 1200ft.lbs respectively. These kits use carbon-semi-metallic discs and are very strong but still offer a modicum of drivability. Again it would include a flywheel.
These would be the premier all out clutch for the J's, which would be the stongest in the industy.
We would need about 10 interested and serious to do this setup, to get this project started.
Here is what we would offer, 4 different kits:
Twin Disc Aluminum Flywheel
Twin Disc Steel Flywheel
Tripple Disc Aluminum Flywheel
Tripple Disc Steel Flywheel
Pricing for a complete kit would be $1400-1800 depending what kit you would get above. Is there such interest for this high end clutch setup?
BTW, this develpoment will be with "Turbo Tech Racing" and "SPEC" which will help build these kits, exclusively for "Turbo Tech Racing"

i would def. love one, but i have 2 problems. 1 i dont have the money now and proboly wont for a while and 2 im not pushin near enough horsepower now to need one.
Too bad theres not a way to make them for all Jbodies at a slightly cheaper price.
They can be made for all engines, SPEC needs a minimum of 10 orders for each engine. We figured the 2.2 ecotec would be the best. The should in our opinion also be enough interest for the 2.4L. However there are 2, different 2.4L clutch kits, one for the izusu and one for the getrag.... So that would each need 10 kits...

Isn't the flywheel made thinner to make room for the surface discs and larger pressure plate? If you have any pics... I'm wondering how they have it set up.

The 2 different 2.4 setups are distracting.
Both are interchangable as long as all 3 components are replaced (clutch, PP, Flywheel).
The isuzu was used with the flat flywheel from the mid 80's til '94, even on the quad. It changed in 95, most likely to add mass to the flywheel to smooth out how the engine runs.
The stack-up and splines are the same no matter what trans is used.

I need at least a twin disc for what I plan to be running in the very near future, but unfortunately.. other than me, there are few here willing to pay $1800 for a clutch kit.
I hope this goes through.. I'll be the first to sign up to be interested in the twin disc..
i'd sign up for the triple disc too just in case
I might be interested but that price is pretty steep....but much more than a good clutch and flywheel is already. Would SPEC be interested in trying to make a new/better version of the slave cylinder of stock form? - LOTS of people would be all over that.

We will let them know this about the slave cyl.
Also the twin disc should be around 1400 and the tripple would be around 1800
One benifit to remember also is, you can get a STEEL flywheel, which will be lighter than stock (OEM), yet wont break like the aluminum ones sometimes do...

2.4's !
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
im down for a twin disc ecotec
this is a good deal considering a spec fly wheel is 400 and the spec 3+ clutch is around 500. so you spend 300 more and get a second disc that holds more power and allows better dd with higher horsepower. just some food for thought,

That is a very good point. I think u have convinced to get put my name down for one. But still i wont have the money or the use for it until i get my turbo kit.
well i know their are quite a few boosted cavaliers that would love the extra grip and the better drivability these will provide.

I'm not going to tell you what to do skwirl, as I am fully confident that you know what you're doing...but I'm pretty sure these torque specs are flywheel rated (perhaps Aaron can verify), which would put you near the edge of the twin's rated torque. That is of course unless you are shooting for high hp and moderate torque. In which case...carry on

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
I would be down for one for a 2.4!
I paid about 1200-1300 for the Clutch Masters twin disc.............. They already have the tooling to do it for the 2.4L LD9 and the ecotec.

You won't like stop n go traffic, it's so damn grippy, and noisy, but it does exactly as advertised. I don't find it too bad, but then again I'm the type of guy that thinks as long as the car has a radio and a window that rolls down to get through a drivethrough ti's still streetable.

Is there anyway to get a twin disc clutch for an ECOTEC w/o this GP. Cuz i think this thread is dead.

Yes, call Clutch Masters.... They have already done up one for Hahn's car, so they should have what you need on file. You'd have to shoot them an email or call them up.
The price also won't be just for the clutch, it will be a flywheel, clutch, throw out bearing, pressure plate combo.

remember hanh destroyed that clutch very quickly. they may have a new design though.
NightmaresCavy wrote:remember hanh destroyed that clutch very quickly. they may have a new design though.
Hahn was using a lil bit of a unique setup. They had something like an iron / organic'ish disc combo...
I know of a few 600hp Evos using the EXACT same twin disc setup that I was using ****besides the obvious difference in flywheel size^^^^^ doing just fine at the dragstrip.
