I read the B+M Shiftplus install guide, and over there, i read that the Shiftplus doesnt work for the 3spd tranny.....
But, before i read this, i had already ordered the 70380 shiftplus off the internet. It arrived today, and i proceeded to install it. I put the red wire on the red wire, and the black wire onto the black w.blue-stripe wire. I was not expecting it to work at all, but i just HAD to test it out. So, i proceed to test-drive my car. First, with the Shiftplus off. Of course, the car drove normally. With full pedal pressure, the car went through the gears as usual.
Then, i test drove it on level 1. With the exact same pedal pressure as before level 1 was on, the car stayed in 2nd gear MUCH longer than it did previously, and when it shifted to 3rd gear, it was at a higher rpms upon entereing the 3rd gear. This is GOOOOOOD!!!! The car was a lot closer to its powerband when i entered 3rd gear. There was a little bit more torque.
On level 1, the shifts werent necessarily harder, or firmer, but the car DID stay in a gear longer than usual, and supplied more power over to the next gear.
Then, i test drove it on level 2. With the same pedal pressure as the other two tests, the car behaved slightly different. This time, it stayed in 1st gear longer than usual, and it stayed in 2nd gear longer than usual, therefore transferring more power to the 3rd gear when it shifted. The shifts were also slightly more firm, and i could tell this because when i was slowing down, i could hear the gears shift down, 3rd, 2nd, then 1st.
Its a Great Product, and actually DOES work on the 3speed tranny. I have a 1996 Sunfire with the 2.2OHV engine with an intake, exhaust, strut-bar, weight-reduction, 3" drop on steelie wheels, and obviously 3-speed transmission.

I dunno if i'd say that worked..the shift plus doesn't keep your car in that gear longer, it just makes it shift harder to decrease the time between gears. All it does, if i'm not mistaken is up the vacuum pressure in the tranny. I have it and when my car shifts from 1st to second it throws you back and will chirp the tires..You might just be feeling things..haha
Im gonna waste a post to say... LOL
I will second Phlatcav on this one.

HMMMmm.......Its possible that im feelin things....but i doubt it...

Yeah it does not work on the 3 speed. Why? Because the 3 speed tranny is manual controled throught valves inside the tranny. The 4 speed tranny is electronic controled which is why the B&M works.

Congratulations, send your story to B&M they'd be happy to hear this. DO IT! you could get a lot of money and buy NOS.

i'd also like to know how you hooked it up... the only wiring to that trans is the vss... the th125 is about an archaic a trans as a powerglide... well, not really, but damn close.

Sounds to me like someone has a 4 speed and doesn't know it...

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
