3spd to 4spd Swap
Wednesday, January 16, 2008 3:23 PM
Alright I searched on here and on the third gen forum, I havent found anything related to what I have to ask.

Im doing a Eco swap along with a 4t40e on my 00 cavy and since its a bastard child of GM it came with the "optional" 3spd auto.

Now my question is are the shift linkages different between the two?

from what i have read on the eco swap you will need a new transmission anyways because the bellhousings are different patterns. i dont know if this helps you at all. you will need a transmission that will bolt up to the eco.

The Bellhousing and things like that I am aware of.. The fact I have to weld the new bracket for the 4t40e along with a tranny mount are the things I currently know. Im trying to figure out if the shift cables/lines for automatics are different, since Im going from a 3spd to the 4spd.

All the auto transmission brackets I've seen were the same... you might be ok there. It's the mount itself that's different. I haven't seen many 3 speeds, but I do remember comparing them at the wreckers a long time ago...

I don't know if the cables are the same... stuff like that is not listed in my parts listing. Might be, because GM tends to use similar cables on all similar size cars.... but might not be... might be longer to accommodate that extra shifter position.

Thats what im trying to figure out. I think they are the same but I really have no Idea cause, I never looked at the sizes of the cables. As far as the bracket concerns if its the same that means less work for me when I start the swap sooner cause I have the TTR tranny mount ... Thanks for that part of the advice Lenko

on a 95 cav 3 speed auto the shifter actualy has the extra detent for 4 speed

just put it in and find out at worst you need to get shifter cable from a 4 speed

or you can get a universal cable any length you need

but i'm sure its the same becasue ots only the 4t6Xe have the cables that loop around.
