Basically I'm lost as to what transmissions go to what models of cars. I got a 98 z24 and was wondering what years are compatible with it. I also see a lot about the getrag swap and was wondering what years and models these come off of.

I've read a lot of different posts but none of them really answer all of these questions. I personally think that someone should make a good list of these and make it a sticky.

95-99 used the Isuzu tranny
2000-2005 used the Getrag

You can use a direct replacement only from other 2.4 Manual's from 95-99 (and the 2.3 in 99), but not from a 2.2, 2200, or Eco.
The Getrag swap requires a lot of extra stuff, and you can use the 2.4 Getrag from 2000-2002 2.4's, but not from a 2200 or Eco.

it doesnt have to be that way.....alot of people forget.( or dont care) that if you have a 95-99 2.4 engine with the manual isuzu tranny and you want a getrag you dont HAVE to go thru all that work to put the 2000+ getrag in....the 1992-1994 5speed getrag that came with the 2.3 HO is a direct replacement as well..it utilized the internal slave,can use the same clutch assembly,is just as strong with very similar if not the same gear ratios and requires VERY little modification to fit it perfectly in your car......no cutting or welding requred
