Hard shifting and No first

Hey guys got some questions for ya. I just got my sisters car, as she got a brand new focus. Well anywyas, When she drove it she always had first gear she tells me, but I cant seem to get the car into the gear, atleast 50% of the time. she did have bad cabels, so I bought brand new ones and it seems to have helped in shifting but now I have no first. The other thing is, its very hard for me to go into the gears. It feels like I have to jam them in. I know it was low on fluid so I put some gear fluid, dont know if that did anything. Do you think the tranny is shot. Oh and I did put a B&M short shifter in, but the problems still happend before I installed it.

Try pumping the pedal a bit and see if that makes a difference in terms of gear selection. If it does then it may be time to flush and refill the hydraulics. Before doing this you should also check the fluid color in the reservior too. If the fluid is discolored at all that is further evidence of a needed change. Once this is done you may see some improvement. If not, and the gears are still difficult to select, then you should move on to replacing the slave and master cylinder. If that doesn't fix it...you likely have tranny problems! Let me know what you find and I will be happy to assist you further. Thanks!

Thanks man. Its wierd, I bought that syncromesh fluid from autozone and it seems to have helped a little. I noticed it I dont puch the pedal to the floor it does not like to go in. I will do a tranny flush and a clutch flush. Do you know what fluid the clutch takes, is it brake fluid?
