3T40 Variations?

Ok, I put a turbo on my cavalier and now the trans is dying. It will not shift from first. I think my intermediate band failed because all other attempts have failed. So does a 1997 Cavalier 3 speed (3T40) transmission the same as a 1998 Cavalier 3 speed (3T40)?

The 1997 is a 2.2L and the 1998 is a 2200. The 98 Cavalier has a lockup converter, but I dont know if the 97 does. So are they they same trans exactly? The 97 isnt in my possesion, but I can buy it from a co-worker for $100. The engines got a bad main or rod bearing but the trans seems fine.

Yes they are the same, but you'll probably end up having the same problem after a while, being you are boosted. These threads should help: "3 speed auto, finally done" by Event and "Stock Torque Conveters, 3 Speed gears and more!", by me.

I'd recommend the Alto Red Eagle Master kit and an aftermarket/custom torque converter to take full advantage of your set-up.

Well, Is there anyway to force the transmission into 2nd gear? Otherwise, it wont shift by itself very often. Im not sure if its the band or something else (maybe in the valve body?) but I do know that the 40mile trip to the garage it will be sitting in will take forever in first. lol.
