trans fill level?

What is the proper fill level for my 05 auto? It is supposed to be maintenance free, but I don't trust the factory to have the right fluid level. There is no dipstick for the tranny, and nothing in Haynes for it either. All there is is the cap on the trans case.

it's in the haynes manual for sure, just have to look harder. should also be in the car's factory owner's manual. but if those dont provide answers check out:

gm dealership.
local transmission repair shop.
local mechanic shop.

basically, there is a bolt in the side of the case you take out, fill til the fluid stops running out of said hole, then its full.

make sure the engine is running when you do this, otherwise you wont have enough fluid in the trans.

Well color me friggin stupid. It is there in the Haynes. Somebody must have broken into my shed and replaced my Haynes with an exact replica (oil stains and all) except it now has this section.

LOL In my defense, to quote the Owners Manual: "It is not necessary to check the transaxle fluid level." I guess I never felt it necessary to double check with the Haynes. And when did it become too much for the maufacturer to put in a trans fluid dipstick? All my vehicles have always had a tranny dipstick. They have had them for the past 100 years, why stop now?

When I first got my car, I thought it was pretty strange that there was no dipstick. I should have known better. Anyways, the fluid is at the correct level. Thanks!

ive often wondered the same myself about why gm was gay and failed to install a tranny dipstick for us.

probly for the reason they were confident it didnt need checked nor changed for several thousand miles.

yeah like 60,000

rosesunkist: if you dont have anything leaking, there is no need to check the fluid. if you have around 50k it wouldnt hurt to change the fluid. if you change it yourself, find a manual that will tell how to check the fluid level like zyaaaa said. the only thing about doing it yourself is that you wont get all the fluid out.
