I bought my car with 85,000 miles and clutch was kinda crappy. Chattered and had to be slipped taking off. 20,000 miles later I finally decide to change it and found a Daiken (aka Exedy) clutch in there. Obviously it wasn't the original, and there was plenty of clutch disk left. Pressure plate and flywheel were bluish explaining the chatter. Now in defense of Exedy the original driver might not have been too good driving a manual considering the clutch was replaced that early, or it was a crappy pressure plate. Personally I like Luk clutches, but they only make a repset for your application instead of offering their Gold series.

I just replaced my stock clutch with an Exedy and after 500 miles so far it's been fine. No different from stock, minus the chatter.

LUK repset's are GREAT, my DSM, and GTZ\W41 have them, if i ever get one in the GTO its getting a Repset.

If i ever had to put a clutch in another J car again, it would be a LUK.

Chris.

Repset is what I put back in mine, AND was cheaper (ordered from Carolina Clutch) than the questionable brands carried at Advance or Autozone. I'd have a hard time putting anything other than Luk in a car now.

yep.

and from what i gather, there are but 5-6 people here that couldn't use it for there racing application.

Just installed my Exedy clutch this morning, kit came with new throwout bearing and slavecyclinder, pressure plate, clutch disk, and tool for 295 bucks plus free shipping. Came with everything I needed and loved the price. I ordered off of clutchcityonline.com, great customer service.

Exedy might be coming out with a new line for us J-body eco guys

We got a call today from the R&D department to test one prototype on our Drift mustang and I mentioned we'd be willing to try R&D on an l61 ecotec with gettrag f23 transmission as well. The guy said it depends on the success of this new line they are trying.

They are 5 puck, sprung, and are a stage 3. This should be interesting.

How is the release point and shiftness with the exedy?

I bought my car with 47,000 miles and now the odometer currently sits aroung 81,000. Never driven the car with a brand new oem clutch so I can't compare since most say it feels like stock again.

feels fine, you get used to it, just like any other clutch on any other car... We didn't change her clutch till 122K and you could only notice it when you got on it, so naturally I was the one who noticed it. Do you really need a new clutch at 80K or are you looking for something stiffer? Exedy won't do that for you, its just an oem replacement

I'm fine with oem replacement no need for all these stage this and that when the stock clutch held its grounds and still is. the only reason I'm changing it is because my TOB is shot.

Re: Exedy

also the car is boosted as well so 80k might be about right. i also learned how to drive manual with the car and went through all the burn out phases as well and the clutch still was doing its job.

ah..... yea well if your TOB is gone and you have to dig around there thru all that anyway, might as well...

Well the exedy clutch looks like a solid piece when I bought my car it a had a replacement OEM clutch on it made by DK. Like I said earlier in the thread I paid 295 plus free shipping for the complete clutch, throwout bearing, and slave cyclinder. I've driven a couple imports with Exedy clutches and I like the way they feel so I'm sure this would be no different.
