I have a 98 Z 5 speed, every once in a while, when i go to put it in reverse it wont want to go, so I let out the clutch, push the clutch back in and try again. When i do that it grinds, but goes in gear. 1-2-3-4-5 don't have any problems, just R. other times reverse goes in smooth like butter. Synchro on its way out maybe?
There is no synchro for reverse, and what you're describing is normal for the isuzu tranny. I put it in first and let the clutch out enough to grab, then put it in reverse when it doesn't want to go.

it even says to do this in the owners manual.
