Hi!
Have not posted in a long time, but I have a problem.
I have a 1996 Cavalier Z24 with 164K miles on it.
Went to drive it today after sitting about 2 weeks. The vehicle would not shift from 1st gear. I could go about 15-20 MPH. The tach would rev with the motor, but the speedo stayed on 0.
All other gears worked. Park, Neutral, Reverse were all fine. I detected no change when I switched from 3 - 2 - 1.
Could this be a sensor or something? I hope it's not the tranny. It was fine the last time I drove it.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

try changing the sensor cuz if it dont know how fast its going so it dont know when to shift
Can someone please point me to what sensor I would need to change? I have no idea where it would be or how to change it.
Thank you,
Chris

Update!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So I just got off the phone with the mechanic. Had the Cavalier towed there last night.
Turns out, an animal had been chewing on a wiring harness under the car! Chewed through 5 wires, 2 of which control a speed sensor to the transmission.
He said it should be fixed today. Hopefully not too expensive.

Simple check and you could have probably fixed it yourself for under $20. Animal damage to iring is very common and easy to spot.
