Ok so i got a 2.4 from the jy and it also got a tranny and the whole 9 yards so i was wondering what tranny it is like
if its
a:
Getrag
or
isuzu?
How to tell them apart?
the getrag has a kind of checker board look to the side you look directly down at as if it were in an engine bay. the izuzu is relatively smooth and does not have it.
thats the easiest way ive found to tell them apart... that and the bleeder valve on the izuzu sticks right out of the rubber plug in the side of the tranny and you can see it plain as day.
Are you scared of the changes coming? The answer is on the inside.
ok can anybody else help me? is there a certain vin number i can find on it to tell me?
There wont be a VIN on it. If it looks like teh pics I posted it is an Isuzu.
im pretty sure the j-body getrag has "F23" stamped into the side of it somewhere...

Bingo... massive font saying F23 as you look at it from on top.
I should know that as I have changed my Getrag so many times but I just dot recall ever seeing it.
not to be off topic but has anyone seen a differential explode in a isusu trany
Not exploded but I took out the spider and pinion gears inside the diff.
Cant see it in that pic but the spiders are missing a couple of teeth. I still have the diff somewhere around here.
Isuzu, as I posted pics of.
ok thanks ^^^^ and just wasn't for sure on it so i figured i would post pics of it.
thanks again guys very helpful
and what do you guys think that tranny would run like with a 2.3/2.4 hybrid???
thats the motor i pull it off of when i got the hard parts from the jy
The Isuzu does not seem to take high RPM shifts very well. It also is not a very good idea to do a lot of one wheel peels with that trans either.
well i tend to get both of my turnning when i do a burn out with my 2.2 OHV 5spd doesn''t really ever jsut spin one. lol i'm hard on it
don't really care if it goes kinda thing cause when it does i''m just going to put my 2.3 hybrid and 282 getrag behind that so. lol
^^^ you do realize the 2.2 and 2.3/2.4 bell housings on the izuzu's are completely different, yes?

i do relize i'm going to be puttin my 90's getrag on my 2.3 hybrid when its all said and done and the isuzu is what i pulled
off the motor when i took it from the jy witch is why its so wired of a find
see i found a z24 in the jy wich said is was 95 so that means 2.3 and thats what it said on the sticker will
getting to looking the block is a 2.4 with a 456 2.3 head on it with a hex drive p/s pump and a lo output 2.3 intake manie on it
running a 2.4 ecm. witch also had this isuzu tranny bolted to it well hanging off it cause someone be4 me took all the bellhousing bolts outa of it.
weird i know! ! ! ! ! !
so give me your opinions on this car? lol
tell me whatcha guys think it is and what all was done to it.

yah that pin in the mittle shattered and the gears were in the street. a 4500 dump dont do weell huh
i have some pics in my myspace page for some reason i cant get them to upload on here it says the files are too big
i cant figure it out go to my ymspace page its in the blue bomber album sorry im nt that computer litterate
^ If you are hard on a tranny, the Isuzu won't last long for you. I broke 2 of them myself, they just can't stand up to abuse, especially burn outs and side-stepping the clutch. The diff is weak, so if you are set on using the isuzu tranny, at least put the geo storm diff in it.

well i'm hard on it burnouts all the time and now side-stepping the clutch always use the clutch as its suppose to be used
