well while i was doing some research i came across a 2004-2007 saturn vue with the mg3 trans. they are supposed to be a heavier duty transmission than the m86 found in our cars, just seeing if anyone could shed some hopefull light on this.

sorry wrong thread i think.
i swear i read somewhere that the gearing was different tho.
My car was made with wrenches, Not chopsticks.
yeah im using it not because its heavier duty but it has a shorter 5th and final, so acceleration should be improved. a custom trans mount will need to be made
heres some pictures of my full solid mount i made
also, with this mount, a new clutch line may be needed because the square brace gets in the way of the clutch line.
everything bolts up nicely, and the electrical plugs are the same as a standard cavalier trans. also, it weighs 4 or 5 pounds less than a regular trans when filled with fluid ;p
the mount is the same as a cobalt mount also and i beleive a ion (not sure about bellhousing so it might not work) but you may be able to use a cobalt/ion trans if the bellhousing is the same.
another benefit i just thought of is that it uses one mount as opposed to 2, so it may be even greater weight savings if since the old mounts need to be cut out to fit this (not sure if the front one needs to but the back one needs to be removed or have a slot cut out for the linkage)
i haven't gotten the car running yet so i cant garuntee this will work at all, and vue linkages may be needed, although i dont think you need them, its only a maybe on the linkages.
its definatally an interesting decision, but i wouldn't recommend it for a DD car because the different gearing would worsen fuel mileage (i think, cant prove this either, as i've got the car gutted and helped it breath, and im swapping from a 2.4 to an eco so i cant prove any mileage changes.
another thing to note it that if you use a the ecotec mount, the trans mount need to be lowered exatly one inch, however if you use the 2.4 mount the trans mount is comletely level with the chassis, although i think i read that the 2.4 engine mount causes hood clearance issues
ill post more of what i know when i remember more

Get all the parts you need in a pile, and drive the car into it.
They will find their way into the correct places.
wow
thats alot of modding..lol

Nothing heavy duty about the MG3.
5th gear is different, final drive is listed as the same as the M86, although I wouldn't doubt if that was incorrect because it is typically used in the vue (a much heavier vehicle). Perhaps internal components are beefier? Who knows..
crappier gas mileage for cruising, but if for whatever reason, you wanted (or needed) to use 5th as an acceleration gear, the MG3 is the better of the two.

i was waiting for you to chime in.
but all the info i get about the mg3 is that its a heavy duty trans, idk. i suppose ill just cough up the 1200$ for a quaife, that obx is junk.

probably wont work for you eco guys but just get the F40 and swap bellhousings if your gonna make custom mounts go with the good 1
if i blow my F23 i will drop the F40 in mine i want it because its gearing is better and who doesn't want a 6spd manual

depends on the ratios.. more isn't always better.
I'll stick with my 5 speed M86 thanks.

thats true but in my case 1st is useless and 2nd is borderline usless, its almost better to launch in 2nd in my case, i couldn't imagin ravens car with a lightened flywheel and over double the power i have with the F23. pretty much you let the clutch out its right back in again for 1st gear it revs out so fast

What was wrong with the OBX?, your the first I've heard who didn't like it. Although probly only 5 people on here are even running them.

well just because it LOOKS exactly the same doesn't mean it is. For starters the materials used and quality of the production is something that requires testing to prove. Then i highly doubt anyone took the time to check them over for tolerances. The acutal working properties of the unit can be different as well. Then comes the factor that Quaife will warranty the item while used in racing. Even if OBX claims a warranty, good luck making them stick to it.
PLUS quaife makes basically everything in house though are at least in the UK. (which does have to do with the price) OBX is as communist as they come.

O ok...so you have never tried one.
Boosted2point4 is running one if im not mistaken in his 400hp LD9 just fine. LOL For the price, I'll probably stick with OBX.
Also, I dont know who ever said they were the same as Quaife, thats a no brain-er, but in the aftermarket world OBX makes a very nice unit. MUCH love for them in the Honda world.

and yes Boosted2point4 has one but hasnt even hardly drivin it with it in..ive had one garbage, complete @!#$.. for the amount ive bought it for plus transmissions, i could have already bought a quaife. Im just going to start off this year with no more cheap ass way outs, do it right the first time.

^I've actually seen the exact opposite to be true. Never bothered to check Subaru's but there is alot of following in the Honda ring for the OBX diffs. To be honest I just went looking around there forums tonight and I've seen as many posts about busted OBX's as I have Quaife's for the Honda guys. Eh.... Hope you have better luck with the Quaife then.

Brandon Fetter has one in his 486 whp turbo 2.4 and has run an 11.99@124mph and hasn't had any problem, and he took his right out of the box without changing the bellville washers or bolts which is the only thing I've ever read was wrong with the OBX. I have one for my turbo 2.3/2.4 hybrid and I purchased the upgraded 12.9 bolts and washers from Rich Bryant then rebuilt mine by disassembling it and deburring both halves of the housing, cleaning everything with brake cleaner and foamy engine degreaser. Then reassembling everything with super slick engine assembly oil and moly lube and red loctite on the bolts.
I'm shooting for 500+ whp so we shall see how it holds up, if everything goes as planned Ishould be on the road by the end of April.
you can swap all the internals over between your stock housing and the vue trans. you just keep your final drive gear off your stock trans. i have a vue trans in the garage im selling because i found another trans.
really what are you planning vince?

i found another stock replacement trans instead of having to swap the internals of the vue trans and keep my fdr all into my case. now i can pull one and put in the other. i still might swap it all and sell the trans or just sell both as a package deal so someone can do with it what they want.
ahh i seez. im gonna break down and get my save on and purchase a quiafe
