Hi All,
I live in the UK and have built a twin engine car which is currently using 2 5 speed F20 manual transmissions.
The gear selection has been fine for day to day use and until recently ok for 1/4mile racing but as the engine power has been increased i'm losing a lot of time now during gear shifts as it's really difficult to complete a shift of the 2 transmissions in less than about 1.5 seconds (not really a major problem when I was running 13's on the 1/4 which required only 1 shift but i'm now well into the mid 12's requiring another shift which is wasting a large amount of time on the run).
I have been reading about Auto options and I think that the 4T40\45e transmissions will connect to my GM C20XE engines as they have a similar bellhousing bolt pattern to the 2.2 Ecotec engines.
Where i'm struggling is to find any information about the actual dimensions of the complete 4T40e transmissions as the car i'm using has very little space around the rear side of the transmission area. I have spend days searching around the internet to find some measurements of the 4T40e but with no luck.
Does anyone here have access to some size information or may be able to take a few quick measurments of a 4T40e transmission for me as it's going to cost quite a large amount to get one shipped to the UK only to find it's too big to install?
The key size I need is how far back the differential area of the gearbox protrudes from the back of the bellhousing that connects to the engine, also would be useful to have the depth of the transmission from the mounting face and how far frontwards the transmission protrudes from the bellhousing.
Many thanks in advance,
Mike
There is info about the car I have built on my website if you would like to take a look:
