How's it going guys.. I just have a couple of questions about the MK7 Tranny.. I have a 1998 Cavalier 2.2L 5SPD, with the MK7 tranny..
1.) I've had this clutch fluid leak for a while now and I have looked all over for the leak and I just cannot seem to find where it is leaking
out of.. So, all I do is just keep filling it up with clutch fluid about every 2 weeks or so.. I'm just wondering if any of you guys have
experienced a similar problem and have found a fix for this problem.. Because, I am just clueless as to where all that clutch
fluid is leaking from..
2.) My second question is kind of silly.. But, I just really want to make sure.. Is the MK7 transmission in a 2.2 1998 Cavalier the exact
same one that is in a 2.2 1999 model Cavalier?? If I ever have to replace my tranny.. I would like to know if the MK7 in a 1999
Cavalier would be interchangeable with an MK7 in a 1998 cavalier... Thanks in advance for the help...
1) Look at the bottom of your trans bellhousing. You'll see a little inspection hole where you can see the flywheel at. See if it looks wet coming from there. Most likely, you've got a bad slave cylinder, which is inside that bellhousing, hence why you can't find the leak.
2) Yes, the 95-99 2.2 manuals are the same. You have to use the 2.2 trans though, a 2.4 tranny won't bolt up.

Awesome man.. Thanks for the help.. I really appreciate it.. I have a spare slave cylinder that came with my new clutch.. If that is the problem.. I will just replace it when either my clutch or tranny go bad.. I guess I will just live with adding clutch fluid every 2 weeks or so.. LOL.. Again.. Thanks for the help !!
