WHat Clutch and Flywheel Should i choose???
Thursday, April 30, 2009 10:44 AM
Im at the point in my cars life when the clutch is about to go. If im in there i mind as well get a better clutch and flywheel. So my question is what kinda is the better one. I have read that fadanza flywheels suck. As for the clutch I dont have many mods so i dont need to go crazy, but i want something that will be able to handle some high rpm clutch drops.. lol

thanks

High rpm clutch drops in a GM spec'd MK7 is not the best idea. Differential can't take that kind of abuse especially if wheel hopping occurs. Since you're not running forced induction I'd go with a Luk clutch. If it was my money I'd spend it on a new GM master cylinder and ball joints over an aluminum flywheel.

why would you do a clutch drop anyway? it doesn't impress anybody, and is much slower than a proper launch.

Im not sure what car you guys are talking about but Spec assured me that they just resell the fidanza's for the ecotec cavi. They did say that they dont do this for all flywheel's but the Ecotec is for sure.

Not to dis-credit. But why in the hell would Spec tell YOU something like that? That would be a pretty good secret if I were Spec, and I wouldn't just tell anybody who called in.

^Just kinda bringing light to the obvious here....not trying to piss ya off.

I found it a bit strange my self. I have been having all sorts of issues with my slaves blowing out after installing my spec clutch. it ended up being that the "NEW" flywheel from Autozone actually ended up being a remanufactured one and it had too much material taken off. I have been talking with spec just about everyday and we came up with that it would just be best if I ordered the aluminum flywheel for my car. I the spec one on a site for $4XX and the Fidanza one on the same site for $3XX. I called spec and I just straight out asked them if they were the same and they said it depends on the model, they stated that they make most of their own but for some models they just resell the Fidanza's. I asked him about my specific model and he said that they just resell the Fidanza's for the '03 cavi. I haven't received it yet so I cant tell anyone the quality but my friend is running a Fidanza on his fully built STI and he beats the crap out of it and drags it every weekend and his has held up fine. I cant remember the guys name that told me from spec but it will come to me.

BTW no offense taken lol doesn't make sense to me either
