Parts store wants to know if I have the MK7 or MJ1 transmission. I have the original order sheet from when the first owner ordered the car from GM and it says MM5 next to the 5 speed transmission designation.
I have searched and searched here and can't find a definitive answer. It looks like the MM5 is the Getrag, but which clutch do I tell the parts store I need? One is 8.5", the other is 8.875"
All 95-99 2.4 5 speed cars came from GM with an isuzu tranny, not a getrag, and as far as I know and have seen they all take the same clutch.
In 00 they switched to a Getrag for the 2.4, but not until then, and that is when the clutch change occurred as well.
I'd try a different parts store. Which one are you using currently?
Autozone lists NU1918 and NU1906 for the 97 Cavalier with the 2.4 engine. If you hit their website, it shows the same thing.
Found my RPO tag... it said MJ1 so I got it straightened out now. it's part number NU1918 for the kit.
Which of these two cables fits on 1997 Cavalier Z24 2.4lts manual trans? Thanks.
