My car has 109k and I have always been thorough on doing oil changes and maintenance. A few days ago as I was backing out of my garage and I felt my car shift slightly (it is automatic) and then my "trac off" light went on. When I put the car in drive the light remained on. I had to pull over, turn off the car, and then when I turned on the car and put it in drive the light was off but the car almost lurched slightly. It was then fine.

Yesterday I was driving down a hill at roughly 35mph I felt the car lurch slightly and then the "trac off" light went on again. I pulled over and turned the car off and then on having the same results that I had above.

Is this a transmission problem? I have not noticed any leaks in my driveway though I will say my car has been smelling a little bit more later.

Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. I am very nervous that this could be a sign that my car is headed to the graveyard soon and I am not yet prepared to have to buy a new car.
