ok guys... about 3 years ago i lost 2nd gear in my stock 2002 getrag and swapped in a 2003 one without any issues except i could not get my forward and back cable in all the way.. it went in kinda wrong but it held and i could not for the life of me pull it back out of the bracket so i just let it go and it held for over 2 years or more.... well i had a problem when i had to shift really hard from 1st to 2nd because i pulled out infront of someone and well lets just say it popped out of the bracket on the transmisson.. got it back in and all was fine for over 6 months....
well not to long ago i had to replace my motor and when we got it all back in the cable went in just fine like it should have.... well the other night i had to hit 4th gear pretty hard and well it popped out of the bracket again..... is there anyone else with this issue? should i replace just that cable and how hard is it i've never done that before..... thanks for the help guys...
that bracket?
I had the little bushing thing break on mine. What i did was tie some twine around the cable cover, wrap it a BUNCH of times on both sides of the bushing, as close as you can get to it and then secure it to the bracket.
it actually held up for a LONG time.
I ended up just replacing the cables though, I didnt have 2-4-r after it broke the final time and it SUCKED to drive the car, lol i had to "flintstone" it for reverse.
hope that helps

Yes sir that's the bracket I'm talking about. It sucks when it pops out. I found some cables for 50 bucks so I'm getting em just dread changing em.
I did it and it wasnt too bad. I pulled them off the shifter, and trans, then pulled back the carpet and pulled it all inside (i think thats the only way TO to it, but idk).
you really have to be careful not to kink or bend them when you install the new ones (beacuse of the floor vent) but removal of the old ones is a breeze with some bolt cutters lol.
it took me about 20 minutes, but I have a 2200, and really nothing but an intake manifold behind the motor so there is a TON of room.

Yeah your lucky. Ecotec is another story. My cai gets in the way, abs module, powersteering lines are in the way, its a pita. I'm just glad I'm not the only person with this very very annoying issue. Thanks again man.
No problem. If you were closer id say come on by on my day off and Id help you.... but lol its a far drive especially with broken cables.
you can try and lift the car up, and push the cables down and then feed them up onto the trans when you are installing. it might be easier.
either way, once its fixed i dont see it being a problem thereafter.
I am regularly hard on my cables and theyre good and solid. plus i have a spare in case one breaks.
