1. Why is this a problem in alot of the getrags, even cobalts.saturns, fords that use the getrag have this problem.
The dealer wanted $50 for just one new 3rd gear synchro, god knows how much for installation.
2.If enough people called in and complained, you think we could get GM to fix this for us for free, or at least meet us halfway on cost?
It's German engineered, what can you expect?
As for GM doing something for the repairs, read Getrag noise (or something like that) by me in the maintenance. In other words, it would be easier to just speak one one with the Pope.

mine isnt a constant noise like you described in that thread, although thanks cause I will try the B&M stuff in the near future.
Mine grinds going into third gear.
and I thought german stuff was supposed to be good stuff.
why would GM fix a getrag problem?
go to getrag and complain.

+1, you'd have a hard enough time getting GM to repair a GM problem.
i find it amusing that SHOoff has nothing better to do but follow me around & be an unhelpful dick in even cross-forum. - Jon Mick
yeah he kinda answere dhis own question when he mention ford that use getrag have the same issue. or just go buy a newer trans from a wrecker with low milage and your done get over it you drive a cavalier/sunfire if you had a Corvette ZR1, GM would listen to you but yeah sorry your 1 of the millions that bought a LOW END ECCONOMY CAR, there not built to last forever thus why this board is here we all make our cars slightly better then GM did

Well...the responsibility lies with GM, who then, according to their agreement with Getrag, sends Getrag a bill. That's how it works, but it ain't gonna happen here.
You won't get any help with this situation, and here's why...you wore the synchros from shifting too aggressively. That's why every time I buy a boneyard trans, it shifts like butta. Eh? Yup, the cars in the boneyards are much more likely to be non-abused by "enthusiasts", and had been sedately driven, which does not wear the synchros.
If you don't like the prospect of repairing your trans, then don't...toss in one from a boneyard. The entire deal will set you back much less than rebuilding the one you have. While you have it out, perhaps replace the clutch too...worn clutches are another key source of synchro damage and balky shifting.
And when you are all done? Stop treating the shift lever like some XBox joystick. No one's gonna laugh at you for taking three tenths of a second longer to make a shift. Drive it right, and you won't have to go in there again for a looong time.

I bought the car with this problem, but the car was cheap as hell. but ive just never got around to fix all of it. As experienced as you are, and when you just said junkyards trannys are usually better, that solidifies my decision to get one. Ive always been weary of buying used mechanical parts.
