I've been having issues with my GETRAG and decided to pull it (roll pin in linkage is busted, clutch is starting to go, and slave cyl. issues). I've been doing numerous searches, and everyone is saying it should come out with some ease, (some people pull the subframe, some people do surgery on it). My trans is stuck in first and I don't know if the throw out is holding it in place. All the bolts are pulled on the bell housing, linkage is disconnected, and trans mounts are disconnected. There is a nice gap between the engine and trans underneath, but at the top it's not seperated. Am I missing a bolt? Do I have to disconnect the throw out bearing first? I've about had it with this trans. There is a clip that attaches the clutch fluid line to the slave cylinder that I am missing as well, I've rigged it to work for a while but I am hoping that with a new slave, a clip will be there too. Anyone know if that is the case, or where I can get that clip? Dealers do not carry it here, for some reason unless it comes with the slave. I know it doesn't come with the master, because I've replaced that too.
There is a sneaky hidden bolt behind the thermostat housing. You need a really long extension to get it from the passenger side. You should have removed 8 bolts/screws out of the transmission.
Here....
that should help.

That bolt is out as well. I do know the tob doesn't need to be removed. Just a big pry bar is the trick apparently. This is the first time I've attempted this myself, but I did put it all back together after the dealership stripped everything out (engine and trans) hence why I'm missing the c clip for my slave cylinder. Tearing apart is alot harder than putting back together. I'm just clueless why my trans isn't laying on the ground yet. I got that bolt without an extension, but I had to be underneath and used a wrench vs. a ratchet and socket.
If all those bolts are out, the trans should just separate right apart. Nothing else is holding it to the motor besides those bolts.
Is it hitting the engine subframe? Thats the only other thing I can think of being in the way of pulling it straight apart...
I do have that bolt out, I did miss one at the front though, by the oil filter and starter, I don't know how the hell I missed that one. That pic helped out quite a bit. Hopefully that is just it, thanks.
That was the one bolt holding and it's out now. Now that I got that out the trans is now seperated and held by the jack. Anyone know if it really is necessary to cut into the subframe don't really want to) or if I can drop the trans from where I am at now, which I have the support bar on the left side pulled. It looks like I should clear the front edge of the subframe, but I could be mistaken. Also any ideas on the roll pin issue, and the million problems with the slave cyl? I got all the same issues with this trans that everyone else has, but I'm getting them all at once, and want to eliminate all of it at once if possible. Previous posts don't have the resolving factor it seems.
Cutting the subframe front ears off WILL make life easier getting it in and out. You don't have to, but its a lot of un needed twisting and maneuvering of the trans which makes it a pain in the ass...
What exactly are your problems your having?
why is everyone so afraid of cutting the subframe? its like removing the tag on a shirt because it scratches and irritates your back...
you're not notching anything that supports weight, its just a left over (probably from the stamping machine they use to make it).
once I cut that square inch of metal off the transmission practically fell out of the car.
I'll see if I can get a picture up on my photobucket since I decided to stop paying my server bill.
Note left hand side of subframe where the bungee is connected... you can see compared to the other side how much I took off... I cut right in front of the holes on that side.
POR-15 does a nice job on these sub frames too.
im gunna go pull an F23 outta a cavy...trying to figure out the best way to pull it....have to jack it up off the ground tho too
