2000+ engine work with a 1997 transmission?

As the title states, I am selling my 2000 2.4 LD9 because I installed an ecotec into my car last week. A guy just called and said he would take it if his 1997 5-spd would bolt up. I can't remember if it will or not, any help would be much appreciated. thanks in advance.

Did a whole bunch more searching, looks like it does fit, he just needs to use his flywheel and clutch...

When did they drop the EGR was that in 99.5? so he would have to use his exhaust and intake manifold as well I guess?

Yes tranny will work. I have yet to see a 99 with EGR. If he wants to keep the car stock the yes he should use his exhaust manifold, his injectors, EGR, his intake manifold. Also he will need to drill and tap the knock sensor hole. The 99+ uses a different knock sensor and the hole is smaller. This is not hard to do.
