well i think my tanny is about to go i have 97 2.2 auto 4 speed and was wondering if a newer tranny would work in it like one from a 2000 or 02 sumthing like that? i heard at about 100,xxx this trany usualy goes, is this true?
and can i get real answers this time guys. thanks, -jake
Brad (flatblackfire) wrote:the 00-02 Getrag from the 2200LN2 will work for you, just need shifter, and linkages IIRC to install it.
also the mounts from the old trans need to be cut off, and the new ones welded in.

so prety much get the trans shifter and links and itll all work? would this tranny be better performance wise?
so they asked me if i had a "F" vin or "4" vin
If it is a 4 speed that is the 4T40e auto. The one they are suggesting is the manual, which is not a drop in transmission. Just go and find a new/remanufactured 4T40E and swap it in, and do fluid changes with Dexron VI every 30,000 miles.

Seems to me if he replaced it with the exact same transmission, it would be a direct bolt in and go.
Note: Oh and jacob- if your transmission is about to die then it won't hurt to try this stuff... Go to your local auto parts store and pick up a bottle of Lubegard red, and dump it in the fill tube. This is the only stuff besides ATF you will ever catch me, or most of the other guys over on BITOG in our transmissions. I put it in the 3T40 in my cav, and what a difference it makes in shift quality. You never know, it might save your tranny so you don't have to worry about any of this.
so the other night the trany was workin like new and i used some lucus but it started to go out again when it got warmed up i was takin it easy and it went out all togeathe, i sat in ghetto ass flint tonight at 11:30 for about 10 mins and it went in reverse , i drove it three miles in reverse to my old work, and waited and when i came out it went into drive and i only had first, btw it was making a grinding noise and smoking a lil, sooo.. its done prety much, im thinkin about gettin the trany from a salvage yard they got the car last week with 31xxx miles, 400 bux for the trans, sound good? its a 02 with a ohv automatic trans
Check online for the transmission. There's a place on ebay even that sells the 4t40e for the vin 4 for like $200-$250 after shipping. Idk how long you can wait though, their freight normally takes like 3 weeks.
Hope is not a plan. Change is not a destination.
could this be something different tho? like a solenoid or sensor or something?
