Weird Bucking/Jerking Problem In All Gears
Tuesday, March 23, 2010 10:09 AM
Okay guys, I need some pretty quick help. I decided to make a cross country trip with my Cav from Wisconsin to California. I'm in Vegas right now, and the car is acting really weird. When I left, it had this odd problem. In any gear, if the engine is under a heavy load and is below 3K RPM, it would buck/chug back and forth until the RPM's would get above about 3K. It wasn't terrible, so I wasn't worried about it.

Now it seems to be worse. It bucks pretty bad in any gear under 3K and you get the vacuum near zero.. It also has a hard time starting out in first gear now. Kinda bucks and the motor wants to die until you get going. The clutch seems to engage wherever the hell it feels like it. I have no idea. I'm 2000+ miles from home and feel pretty helpless right now.

*Edit* Forgot to mention, as long as it is above 3K RPM, it's fine. You can't tell anything is even wrong. I'm wondering if it might just be a pressure plate or throwout bearing issue. I don't know..... Someone help me out!

Also forgot to add that it is a F23 trans with TeamGreen LSD in it. It has always acted a bit funny since I put the LSD in. The trans itself only has about 40K on it. I put the LSD in about 15-20K ago and the internals looked like brand new.

To be honest, that is a very strange problem. What exactly makes you think that it is a transmission problem? It does it in all gears so that tells me that it MAY have something to do with the motor. There is also the possibility of it being the clutch, pressure plate, or maybe even a shot bearing or differential.

Does it do anything when the car is in neutral? Anything out of the ordinary then? What does the car do when you let the clutch out? What does it do when you push the clutch in (does it go away)? Can you explain the sound it makes in more detail, is it more of a hum or a growl or a grind?

Answers to these questions will help us maybe figure out what is wrong.
