I've got a 96 Z24 with a bad 5-speed. A co-worker's friend's junkyard may have a 5-speed from a 95 2.3 Sunfire.
I've read on here that it's a direct bolt-on, but I'm getting conflicting stories from the guys at the junkyard who look it up in their magic compatibility-book..
Is there some ridiculously simple mod required that would make them say "nah it won't fit" ... or are they just nuts? (I'm really hoping they're nuts)
Thanks in advance.. I'm just trying to keep this thing on the road (and keep my wife from telling me "told ya so" after my buying it (against her better judgment) last year as a beater)
I'm not sure that the latter is possible, but hopefully someone can answer my tranny question at least..
Dave
The 96-99 Z24s used the Isuzu and the 95 Z24 (the 2.3) used the NVG T-550. The bellhousing is the same between the two, bit I think the mounts are different.

well....hes HALF right
the 96-99 Z24s all have the isuzu 5speed transmission...but so does the 95 . the NVGt550 NEVER came in a Jbody
the trans from the 1995 2.3 Z24 will bolt up to your 96 all the same as your existing tranny does, no mods needed.

Hmmm. I thought the 95s did, sorry for bad information. What did they come in? I do know that the Getrag 282 became the NVG T550 in the early 90s.
the version of the NVG that we use came equiped with the HO quad4 from 1992-1994 , in cars such as the beretta, achieva, and grand am

Cool, I didn't know that.
