Driving out of a parking lot turning right, I heard a pop/clunk. Gimped about 2 miles home with no more sounds until another right turn that clunked as well. Backed into the driveway and checked the driver side axle. That had alot of play in it. Replaced that, drained the rest of the way and refilled with syncromesh and now I have no drive shaft movement, just a clicking sound when letting out the clutch. After reading tons of other posts about these issues, I think the diff might be gone. Can put into all gears and let the clutch out and only the speedo moves. I called the towing company and the driver has a 2001 2.2 cavy that has a new tranny and clutch ($2000 bill of sale less than 6 months old) installed on that he is parting out due to a rear end accident and would have installed for under $800. I know there are tons of swap postings but I am concerned that he was so quick to say it would fit without even knowing anything other than on the donor car than it was a 2.2 with a manual tranny. So my question is that I just need a replacement, not an upgrade, what other model's transmissions will bolt up to 2200 engine without huge modifications? A yard down the road has a 116k mile tranny for $300 that came from a 97 2200 cavy 5 speed but Id need to have a new clutch and all that fun stuff as well as labor ($90/hr at the transmission shop)
TIA
Brad
check the getrag to isuzu trans swaps thats the only difference the 01 had the getrag a lot stronger and would be a lot better but if you dont feel like modding certain things then try and find an isuzu trans

Yup, the Getrag won't bolt in without modification. You need to cut off the old mounting brackets and have new ones welded in for the 01 transmission to work. Any 2.2/2200 Isuzu manual transmission from 95-99 will bolt right in.
From all the swap forums, will any 2.2 getrag tranny bolt on, whiether eco motor or not? Not even sure what motors were made for those model years 2000+. Ive read so much, brain is on overload. I know the mounts will need to be welded along with a list of parts from the donor car like.... shifter, linkage, master cyl, clutch, flywheel, and probably something else I havent read yet. Thanks again
The only 2000 + transmission that will bolt to your 98 2200 is the Getrag F23 from the 2000-2002 2200 motor. The bellhousing is the same, and will therefore bolt up. But like you mentioned, you will need the shifter and cables as well (I am not sure, but I think you don't need the clutch, flywheel, or master cylinder - I have not personally done the swap).
Just found out that it wont match up and im not about to do a motor swap. I just want my DD back. So I got a '97 isuzu tranny getting pulled as we speak, got my mechanic on standby, just need to order a clutch kit and im good to go. Flywheel is getting resurfaced, anything else I should check on?
As long as your clutch kit comes with a new slave, you should be all set. If your trans mount bushings are shot, now is a good time to replace them (they are only 50 dollars for both).
It does. I have both tranny mounts already coming. im looking forward to the car moving under its own power.
