Hello J body community I race a 1995 2.2 cavy on a half mile asphalt track and Im having a bit of gearing issues. In third I hit rev limiter before the start finish and in fourth its wayyyyyy to slow and it falls on its face on the straight aways. So I was wondering If I would be able to change my gear ratio to a lower gearing to gain more out of fourth because third is hopeless because I can only run a 60 series tire. Also I was wondering what is the gearing for a 1995 2.2 chevy cavalier.
Thanks,

Do you have the 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual? I am going to assume its the 5 speed isuzu, if so your in luck. I have all the gear ratios written at my house for this trans, and I can help you out w/ it. What size tire are you running? What RPMs are you hitting in 3rd and in 4th? I'll get back to you some time latter in the day.
O sorry I forgot to add that its a 5 speed. I am running a 195 60 r15. In third I am completely hitting rev limiter right before the start finish. Im not sure what my revs are In fourth because my tack is very unaccurate and says redline is 8 grand so I just go off of that. Some help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Ok I'll work w/ best case scenario and work back words...Right now your F/D in 3rd is 5.19, 4th 2.65 so if we try to shoot in the middle of these Two numbers (3.92) it should work out to be pretty close. If you had RPM info I could tell you speeds in each gear at each RPM.
Storm (Twin Cam) Diff (4.11) +Storm Twin cam 4th (1.03)= F/D 4.23
Storm (Twin Cam) Diff (4.11) +2.4 LD9 4th (0.92) = F/D 3.78
2.4 LD9 Diff (3.94) +2.4 LD9 4th (0.92)= F/D 3.62
So if you can find a complete trans from a storm GSi/Impulse XS/Stylus RS this would be your best bet. (I believe) This is a pretty involved swap but will be worth it!!
Hey I got the correct information about my speeds and rpms from my track responder. In third I do 105km at 6500 (redline). In fourth I do 118.34 km at about 5300-5500 rpm.
Thanks,
Jo Brown.

I do 118km then I have to brake for the corner.

umm...not sure here. 105km=65 mph. your tire size and stock gearing, should put you @83.2 mph@6000rpm and 90.2 mph @6500rpm? nowhere near 65 mph. Also how many "loops" does you track have that the transponder work off? If there is just one at the start finish line maybe the info they give you is an average? We don't run transponders so I dont know much about them. Sounds to me you are running second and third? IDK, 90 mph+ really seams fast on a circle track, for a "stock" cavalier. I know by my calculations I'm just under 70mph on a little smaller dirt track? Well any way a f/d swap will help.
I use 3rd in the corners and 4th on the straights because 3rd hits the rev limiter just out of the corner. I am doing around 75 mph which is 118.34 km before I have to brake for the corner. My track only has one loop and that is at the start finish. Also I am not running a 60 series tire I am actually running a 195 55 r15 my bad.
