Help:Inconsistent Clutch Pedal?
Sunday, November 07, 2010 3:32 PM
I recently installed a Spec Stage 3 (not plus) clutch into my car. I had the flywheel resurfaced on all the mounting points and the disc. I replaced the slave cylinder with the one Spec provided and bled the clutch multiple times.

Sometimes when I release the pedal, it grabs super low to the floor and the car lunges forward nearly stalling and sometimes it won't begin grabbing until very close to the top of the pedal travel. It makes me drive like a novice.

I did notice for the first few days there I could hear a scraping noise when the car was running with the pedal to the ground, so I bled the clutch a few more times. It's only been in the car for a few thousand miles and the motor isn't boosted yet.

My machinest recommended revving to redline and slipping the clutch excessively to fix it.

Any help?

welcome to the spec stage 3..... thats the BIGGEST complaint about them, they engage all over the place. it is never consistant. From what I have heard of others the plus is a lot better. i have driven a spec stage 3 and it was all over the place too. didnt know when to expect it to grab so i just revved higher than normal and went to town.

Great. So it's nothing I can fix short of replacing it?

From what I gather, that is correct.

looks like someone in the mid east is selling a 3+ for $460, or I know Camron has his 3+ for sale pretty cheap if you want me to ask him...

I would rather not spend more money on a clutch that probably wouldn't work. What is the best clutch to go with then? I'm shooting for no more than 400tq. Bully?

im kinda in the same boat and a good option would be a bully stage 4 or so. im going with a clutch masters twin disc setup but its not cheap.

talk to scott (lafngas) for a bully, he can hook you up.
im talking with hahn and karo for prices on the clutch masters

I had a spec 3 in my red car and it had a random pedal as well. My Spec 2 in the eco is a little better by grabbing toward the bottom of the pedal but is will migrate randomly once in a blue moon. I'll most likely be in the market for a new clutch in the spring as it's begining to slip under wot into 3rd. Post up what you end up going with if you change it and let us know how it works.

Same here. From what I understand it's not a problem limited to their clutches for J-bodies.

i have the same problem with my stage 2. i was told its my master cylinder?? could that be it??? or is it the clutch itself?? and what are the consequences of this unconsistant pedal?? will it go out early?? or what??

its the clutch itself, its just the way its designed. the consequences are that its a bitch to drive and you just have to deal with it, thats all.

Or you could go with Competition Clutch. call up the guys at Nopi.com and have them take off the carbotic pucks and replace them with ceramic ones. Competition Clutch 6-puck ceramic with Exedy GF501 Chromoly Steel flywheel, new master and slave cylinder and rebuilt tranny. all done oct 2010. clutch engagment point is rock solid and doesn't move around. the only drawback is that the clutch engages right before you take your foot off the clutch pedal. other than that... completely satisfied with my setup!!!
