Differential going out?
Thursday, December 02, 2010 10:34 AM
My car started making a clunking noise a few weeks ago, it started out only every now and then and has gone to everytime i drive the car. Basically what is going on is, when im accelerating there is no problem what so ever. Car doesnt pull to one side, no noise, goes into gear without a problem. But when i start slowing down, thats the worst of it. Starts clunking real bad untill i stop completly or hit the gas. I have been doing a lot of reading lately to see what it might be and from everything i have read, it seems like it could be the diff. I have replaced the axel, the ball joint, lower mount and both trans mounts so im kind of at a loss (and broke). Misnblu has been helping me and from what we have gathered, there really isnt to much more that could be causing this problem that hasnt been replaced other then the diff. Im just so fustrated right now i cant even think straight, this is my daily driver and i dont have another vehicle. If i might be overlooking something or anyone has any ideas that i might need to try, please help. Oh, and for the records, its a 2003 Cavalier 5spd with the F23

I got the call back from the shop i brought the car to. The output shaft bearing blew up and caused all kinds of damage. I need a new trans now. I called all the transmission shops around here, and the junkyards but the cheapest one i could find was $425. SunCav, i appreciate the offer, but im broke right now. I lost my job and finding a new one is a PITA, nobody is hiring here at all it seems like. Just out of curiosity though, how much would u be asking for the quaife tranny including shipping. Im in Mississippi
