Hey guys, I got the 3500 swap Sunfire with the 2000 getrag transmission swapped in. Last night I broke an axle at the inner joint, the cup shattered and the axle put a window in my transmission along with many other problems I will have to fix. What I need to know, is if there is any known problems with high mileage Getrag transmissions, i.e. 80,000 mile and above. If there is, what kind of problems are they?
Oh, and don't worry. I'll post up pics of the carnage asap.
i had a 2000z24 with the f23 getrag with 140k miles, i beat the @!#$ out of it for most of the 40k (bought at 100k) and it was the best transmission ive ever had so far
The only thing I would do is put an LSD in. Other than that it should hold up fine.
Well, I haven't got pictures of this particular incident where my axle smashed a hole in my transmission, they're on my phone and I can't get them onto my laptop without the cable. However, since this destruction I broke another axle. THey seem like they're breaking in the same spot, which is to the outside of the cup where the material is weakest. Does anyone have any suggjestions or previous experiance with anything like this? I'm concerned that the axles I'm getting are too short. Although they're the longer of the two options that I know of.
Heres the most recent.

ive found that all the aftermarket axles i buy from the parts stores run about 1/2 inch too an inch short, i had the same problems with axles pulling apart, i went to a junk yard and bought a stock used one and havent had any problems since
I've heard that before, But my axles aren't pulling apart. I'm pretty much shattering the inner cup, Sooo....
