Friday, March 18, 2011 10:25 PM
I have a 1995 2.2l ohv cavalier. Im on my 2nd trans because the caseing keeps breaking.I want to do a build but the iszuzu wont hold any more power. so my question is will any getrag tranny out of the 2ks bolt up to my engine block. I know i have to relocate the tranny mounts. but what else do i have to do? thanks

Not just any will bolt up. Just like the Isuzu transmission, the getrag still have different bell housing for the 2.2 and 2.4. As long as you get one from a 2.2 you will be fine.

stay with the isuzu, the sh!trag tranny sucks, we have one in the new j, and since my car is down for a little bit Im forced to drive the '01, isuzu can handle the power and a stronger tranny in my experience(although some may not agree)and for a 2.2 your not going to make much horsepower out of it, the metel used for the bellhousing is the same, find out whats causing it as a new tranny will just do the same thing, but if you must.....grab one out of any j with 2.2, relocate the mounts, get the shift cables, and if you get the tranny without shifter assembly then get one, you will need a new clutch as the clutches are different, I believe you will have to either machine flywheel(IF in good shape), or buy a new one.
