Clutch Issue; Need Help ASAP

a friend of mine (seriously, no cover-ups) had a throw-out bearing go bad a couple months ago in his Getrag. he came and picked up a used, low-mileage trans I had laying around, and replaced the throw-out bearing/slave cylinder, clutch assembly, and master cylinder while it was all apart. he got it all back together today, and calls me asking why the pedal is on the floor. I tell him to bleed it since it's a fresh system that just got put back together. he says that when he pulls the pedal back up to manually pump it, the pedal comes up half way and won't budge any higher. I asked him if anything was obstructing the path if the pedal and he says no. since this is an issue I've never had, I don't really know what to tell him and being that it's all new parts, I'm confused even more.

he called me throughout the day as he put the last parts of the clutch master cylinder in, saying he had an issue getting the line from the master into the transmission. after fighting with it, he said there was an o-ring at the end of the line, so he slipped it off and it finally went in all the way. I told him it'd probably leak so to keep an eye on it... that's the only thing I can think of that's out of the ordinary, and I dont see how that'd keep the pedal from coming up all the way. we need a solution fast, bc he has to get the car moved before it gets flagged by the county

Find an o-ring that properly fits. I had a problem bleeding my clutch until I put a fitting o-ring on the line. Go to autozone, and buy a small pack of o-rings, find the one that fits and tada!

that could be keeping the pedal from coming all the way up? I told him he needed to replace the o-ring regardless lol.. thanks man, I appreciate it

Possibly, maybe....
I couldn't bleed mine worth a crap when the o-ring was missing, put a new one on and it bled fine after a few tries. Just give it a shot, pack of o-rings will cost like 2.60 anyways.

finally got to talk to him. he did like I said that you said and he got an o-ring kit, bought a single-person bleeder and after some farting around with it, he got it to hold pressure. then it wouldnt go into gear, so he finally got fed up and called his local transmission shop... his gf's dad bolted the clutch assembly in backwards, according to them... I didnt even know that was possible

yea man, I personally appreciate it bc whatever gets him off my back makes me breathe easier. I sold him that car over 2 yrs ago bc I hate wiring and needed a fresh start.. yet here I am, still having to mess with the damn thing. the sad part is that the car was mechanically sound... no leaks, noises, smoke, nothing.... he obliterated everything. I drove it from central Florida, up to him in Minnesota.. it used 4 quarts of oil on that trip. he only drove it for 7 months before flying up there and then deciding to stay
