Stock Pressure Plate

Where can I pick up a stock pressure plate, or even a replacement pressure plate?
2003 Ecotec/ F23 Getrag
I want to do the ACT clutch (PN# 6224222), with a pressure plate and a new slave. I can't find slave cylinders very cheap anywhere, but ebay, and those seem to be sketchy/cheap.
Anyone have some recommendations where to check for a pressure plate, and a slave cylinder, being I am already going with the ACT 6 puck?

Buy the Exedy GMK1000. Its $175 from Amazon.com and comes with everything, then just sell the disc. That's what I did. :-)

I just pm'd you back roofy. Didn't read your post before though.
Think that's what I'm going to do, sounds like the best plan. Thanks a ton!

Did you order the ACT clutch directly from ACT or summit?

Watching this, wanted to do it with my 2200...

Let me know how this turns out!

I ended up just ordering an Exedy kit on amazon and I'm going to use the pressure plate and slave cylinder from that, then sell the disc and use my ACT clutch.

huh?

you can do this with a 2200? I was under the impression the ACT clutch has only worked with the LD9 and ecotec?

I know someone has used a 95-99 flywheel and clutchkit with a 2000+ OHV on a getrag, but that's all I heard of

The clutch Assembly itself will not work the 2200 flywheel, and If im not mistaken, a 2.4l clutch and flywheel or an eco flywheel clutch combo will not either,

However!
ACT's information on summit tells me they make a variety of sprung and unsprung 3,4,and 6 puck as well as full disc options for us OHV's from 95 clear to 2002. They just dont make an upgraded clutch setup with the pressure plate.

I spoke with an ACT rep on this issue and he confirmed compatibility and simply warned me that just upgrading the disc and not the disc AND pressure plate WILL provide an increase in holding torque, however they cannot guarentee any particular holding torque using an aftermarket disc with the stock clamp load. For example, just because they're stage "X" clutch kit comes with a 6 puck unsprung disc and will hold say, 150% over stock, does not mean the same disc with a STOCK pressure plate will net the same torque capacity. It will be a diminshed value since the holding torque is a result of clamp load from the pressure plate and the friction material on the clutch disc.

Your results may (probably will) differ, but All I can say is my setup is holding up just fine with over 300 WHP. The only failure I had was my pressure plate bolts failing and trashing my Fidanza flywheel. I'm back to a stock flywheel and it is holding up just fine.

why do you say the results will probably differ? did the bolts backout? and does warrenty cover the flywheel?

I would LOVE to use an ACT clutch with a stock pressure plate for a 3400 swap, it sure beats paying $800 for a bully. I plan to sit around 260hp. how much power did your clutch claim to hold?

thanks for all the info Alex.

BTW, does anyone else find it funny that SPEC refuses to release their clamping load produced by their kits? i've read a thread or two talking about SPEC simply repainting stock pressure plates. on the otherhand, i've seen a thread on LS1Tech where SPEC posts some information, which shows about a 29% increase in clamping load...

Clamp load is a funny thing, its effect on torque capacity is dynamic, meaning there is a point with which every friction material will be drastically affected by even a minor increase in clamp force... You can only squeeze something so hard before any more squeeze is just a waste of time and energy. Especially when your talking about a clutch where pedal feel is important to most of the market.

This makes me believe that ~30% increase in clamp load is about right. Ceramics and sintered iron discs require some amount of heat (more than semi metallic) before they can grab. They are also slightly less forgiving and progressive than semi metallic which is where the clamp load story comes into play. You don't need to clamp a ceramic pad as hard as a semi metallic to get the same torque capacity.

Clamp load can be artificially raised, by increasing dynamic clamp load with centrifugal weights...SPEC does this on some pressure plates and personally I hate it. I think its the most ridiculous idea. Not to mention dangerous on the street.

Bradley, Roofy is on an ECO, I would not even attempt to compare his results with anything you would be trying as the ECO and LD9's have quite a different pressure plate/flywheel assembly. They also have far more clutch options.

Everything I've seen tells me an ACT OHV disc with a stock pressure plate will work, If i ever have issues with my stock clutch that is what I will be putting in the Cav.

Kinda following up on the ACT install...
Been driving on it for about 600 miles now, chatters pretty badly if you grandma it in 1st gear, but all you need to do is rev a little higher. I've read about it and it seems pretty common for a 6 puck or a racing clutch. Other than that, grabs great, lot better than the stocker use to.

Yes there will be some chatter in first gear. Forgot to mention it! Sorry. I guess I just figured most ppl knew that pucked clutches tended to do that. My bad. Anyways, mine is still holding up great with about 5,000 miles on it so far.

I'm using the same ACT clutch disc Roofy is after seeing him first post up on it. I'm also using a Spec stage 2 pressure plate and Spec aluminum flywheel on my eco, and it clamps very well. I beat the living crap out of the car when I get the urge and have had it in since Feb, I like it so far but I'll see how it does over the summer once I get some track time in with the new slicks.

Alex- What exact setup are you looking to run on your car, plate/disc combo?

Re: Stock Pressure Plate

Right now I'm running a stock exedy... once I trash this one I'll probably be buying the ACT disc (Likely the six puck ceramic sprung hub) and another stock pressure plate.
