Anyone seen this happen before? Its new to me. seen them break in alot of ways, but never like this.
I drive like an A-hole though. think this one is due to a lack of maintence, first gear has been slipping for a while now. knoticed the car was starting to leak a little bit of fluid, then one day when i was on my way home i heard a snap and then a pop, looked in the rear view and saw white smoke. i knew i would be walking soon.

I've never seen that happen either..... and I've seen some crazy things. lol!
Isnt there a brace from that end to the block? Crazy (well, kinda looks from the marks the diff may have been contacting the case), so as Roofy said, bad Diff bearing, probably from lack of fluid, or contaminants in the fluid.
