I recently bought an OBX differential and I need to know what the preload specs are.
Anyone? I'm looking on how to measure the differential bearing preload or shim thickness required.
Here's what I did. (right or wrong)
I took the old 3rd member out. Removed the Ring gear and the Bearings.
Measured from the Ring gear mounting surface to the mounting surface of both bearings, then added the thickness of the shims to each side for the total heights. Short Side was 1.090 +1.040 shim = 2.130. The long side was 91.725 + .750 shim = 92.475
Measured the OBX from the Ring gear mounting surface to the mounting surface of both bearings and calculated how much shim to add to each side to make it match up to the old one. Short Side was 1.375 +.750 shim = 2.125. The long side was 91.400 + 1.08 shim = 92.480.
