C/L?

I have a Isuzu in the driveway, and Getrag (in pieces) in the garage..... just unclear on the measurements needed, and why?

God Bless you Brian !!!

With the tranny level, measure left to right from the center of the input shaft to the output bore (3rd Member).
On the F23 I have, it is approx. 7.5".
Need to know if the Isuzu MK7 is the same. I've got a feeling it's 2" longer.
I thought these were the same. If not, it means they moved the 2.2L engine back toward the firewall on the 2000 models to compensate for the 2" difference.

Thanks for answering. I sent you an e-mail too.

Wasted (2) hours driving to look at a '97 MK7 and a 2001 F23 at a pull-a-part place. Both that had been there were gone. Still left not knowing.

Sorry, I'm not home (out on the road for work) to get measurements for you.

As if there was not a damn near drop in trans upgrade.

Oh that's right! 2.3 LG0\LD2 Tran's... Son of a b!tch, that's what my W41 car had in it ain't it.

Research; Over rated.

While I haven't examined these myself, I will say this: people here have been doing Isuzu to Getrag swaps for years, an not once has anyone mentioned the need for changing the engine mount, which says to me the engines are in the exact same position. Also, with the 3100/3400 swaps, many guys have used my mounts (designed on a 95 with an Isuzu trans) on Getrag cars, and no one has complained of the engine mounted wrong witht them. Seems to me that all evidence points to the engine not moving.

Mr. Quick: Thank you for the info.

I may not have the right tranny. Will post the Tag numbers from it here later...

I just remembered that before I was trying to put the F23 in, that I had a 4T65E-HD in the car with the axles modified to work with the N-W-F swap on the front brakes and gave up because (I) could not mount the tranny safely (for me) . The engine sat in the same spot as before with the Isuzu tranny and the axles lined up with the Hubs. I still have all the parts. Will sell them later.

Going to measure the 4T65E tonight to see what the distance is between the inputshaft and the output bore.

How do you post a picture from your PC ?

Unless you swapped the bell housing, the only possible Trans you could have is one from a 2200 J-body. Only way to get a F23 with that bell housing. The mounts you have are from a 2002 cavalier. My only thought is that your missing something along the way in doing the swap. Front bolt hole not relocated to the correct spot, bracket not notched and Trans hitting the bracket..... something along those lines. The mounts I sold you will only work on that Trans (I'm pretty sure that the cobalt F23 has a different bolt pattern for the mounts)

Need to be premium to host pics on the jbo, or uploaded to another site and linked (photobucket).

The F23 bellhousing bolts right up to the 3800SC just as the Isuzu MK7 and the GM 4T65EHD did. The only difference is where the output for the F23 doesn't line-up with the Wheel Hubs if I leave the engine in its original spot. The engine is in the same alignment that the 2.2L (VIN 4) was. Didn't get to check the 4T65EHD last night.

Yes, I know it bolts up to the 3800, as long as you have the F23 from the 2200 (which this combo is only found in J-bodies) so the fear of having "the wrong transmission" is cured. As far as the input/output difference between the Getrag and Isuzu...... Doesn't matter one bit. If the engine placement was fine with the Isuzu, it will be fine with the Getrag. Place the engine where you want it, slap the axles into the Trans and hubs, drill the front mount hole and bolt it up, line up the rear bracket to the frame rail and mark its location. Drop the Trans back out, weld in new bracket, paint, and done. You seem to be over thinking this swap.

You should be OK with just an inch, then. That's not going to be a drastic angle on the CV joints. Where did you get the info, though? I'd be interested if there is a resource for all the transmission dimensions out there. I haven't found one yet.

I am currently moving the whole powertrain 1.25" back toward the firewall to set the Diff C/L with the Wheel Hubs. This is a major move but I have most of the work done now. Waiting on a buddy to do the welding for me. At least I won't lose my (2) pc. Subframe. Was afraid I'd have to weld them together, but made it work. The exhaust is going to be a problem though, may have to change the angle off of the block.

Thanks to everyone for their support and continued drive to get me to move the powertrain back.
