I current rebuilding a second transmission..
problem i having with the current trans thats in the car well go into 3th gear when it cold, but when it warm up it well not going into 3th gear some times it well (grinding) but pop out of that gear.
This happen after my clutch when out on the highway i forced in to 3th gear to get off the highway. I notice that my shifter has alot of play side to side. I was wondering if the shifter play cause this problem.
I'm running dexron III for automatic what the chevy dealer told me to use. I changed it like 30,000 ago.
Sounds like the dreaded 3rd gear Syncro...

I would try a better tranny fluid to see if it helps.

I can give a shot with different fluids.. I just wondering the shifter which has alot of playing in it like in any gear i can move the shifter side to side like a good 1in and half either way. i have (160,000) on them. i was wondering would be a part of the problem since i forced it in gear hard maybe i bent something or messed up the cables just in that gear.
Update I got a second trans for 60 so going to rebuild the 6k one.
It open up the trans after replace it i could see the tip on the fork was broke on the 3 and 4 the used transmission shifts fine. :-) I glad to have third back think god a year with out it.
