I am buying 17" Rims and heard that if you get say a 215/45R17 tire which is about 6mm smaller that my stock overall size it can give you a small performance increase because of gearing and unsprung weight if the rim is lighter than a stock rim(16" steel chrome rim)?

doubt it will be anything you will really see. also would depend on what you do.
if you drag race, you might as well shoot for another 16 inch to get the larger sidewall so you can get some snap off the line.
if you road race, the 225, def would have the advantage and be the correct size and offer more footprint for grip.
the unsprung weight deal will work on almost anything, no doubt, but performance between the right size of 225, and 215. def not noticable. ride quality and handling.... prob will notice.
thanks Event. ya i was just wondering cause the wheels i want have a tire package with the 215/45s but if it is better to have the 225s for grip then thats what i should probably do.
