Rices of tires will hike.
Wednesday, September 07, 2005 7:09 AM
Four major tire makers have announced price increases for this fall, citing the record price of oil as part of the reason for the hikes.
"If you look at it from a tire manufacturer's perspective, an oil price increase is a triple whammy for us," said Jim Davis, a spokesman for Goodyear. "Oil is a major ingredient in the production of tires. It affects the cost to make tires, it affects the cost to heat or cool the plant where we make tires and of course the trucking cost to ship the tires."
A $1 change in the cost of oil costs Goodyear about $20 million, Davis said.

So oil will be the downfall of society?

Watch TV much? One oil company exec was on Bill O'Reilly and was complaining about only netting $33 BBBBBillion dollars in profit LAST QUARTER. Oil companies should stop being a bunch of money grubbing cock suckers and give the consumer a break.

i dont think a billion would help seeing as how that oil exec made 33 billion dollars seem like he only made 50 cents.

All they have to do is open the Federal Oil Reserve. Its not that difficult...not sure why it hasn't been done yet.

we need to start runnin on ethanol. i saw something on the history channel the other day and it would be cheaper than gas an environmentally safe. GM has something in Brazil called Flexpower and they switched over just fine and said it would be even eaiser for us to switch over. now will Bush allow it is the question . . .

The oil industry is a monopoly, and a cartel. For those who don't understand it's a term called collusion. Collusion is illegal in america, but not in the countries we primarily get our oil from "Middle East". They get together to "set" the price per barrell.

The oil industry is not run based on actual costs, or inflation. If inflation were used to properly guage oil prices, regulular unleaded would cost $2.34 a gallon. On another note the US has lowered the amount of tax it charges on gas since 2003, so there is no excuse for it being so high.

Secondly. It is illegal for a gas station to change prices, unless they recieve a delivery. However that means as soon as the truck shows up they can increase the gas price. So your paying 3.00 a gallon for the SAME gas that was 2.67 or so and still in the tank from the last delivery.

I'm just glad I live 3.4 miles from work and get 30+mpg. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to do anything, becuase I wouldn't be able to afford the gas in my car.

Another thought. Plastics are derived from petroleum byproducts. So increase in oil SHOULD affect the price of everything. But you don't see the cost of plastic going up everytime a delivery of these chemicals is made to DOW.

Face it, oil prices are , and Bush is making more money off of it. They have no desire to control prices other than the angy citizens of the US, and their precious popularity rating.

That's illegal? I know of a small town in Wyoming when a new gas station opened, they changed their prices almost daily. I know they did not receive a gas shipment daily. I know at one point, they were raising the gas prices for the weekend, and would drop them after it was over.
