Can anyone tell me how hard it is to remove a broken wheel stud and replace it with a new one. I've called several shops around here and they all want to charge me at least 30 bucks or more. I've looked up the price for the part and it cost 1.99 plus tax. From what I understand is that I should be able to just hammer the old part of the stud out. Then put the new one in and put on the lug nut. Tighten it down as much as I can..then if possible hammer it in the rest of the way! If some could please tell me If that is correct or should I just pay the 30 bucks to get it put on!! Oh ya...this is on a 98 sunfire front passager wheel.
If it's on the front it's easy. Just take the wheel and caliper off and spin the rotor until you have a large enough space to hammer the stud out and stick the new one in. Then put a lig nut on the stud and tighten it up to bring it in all the way, take the nut off, put the caliper and wheel back on and you're done. If it's on the rear it's a little more difficult, gotta take the drum off but same concept.
